Updated Attendance: New criteria for appearing in ETE

You may access the revised attendance here. The criteria has also been revised. The new criteria is as,

Above 60% average attendance: Allowed in all subjects
Between 50-60%: Meet the Dean
Less than 50% average attendance: Debarred. Allowed only in those subjects where his attendance is more than 75% (65%, if medical/ chorus any other relaxation applicable)

Contact the concerned faculty (Prashant and/ or Sarmistha) for admit cards. Those who are debarred/ have average attendance less than 60% can come to me.

Correction in attendance


Any correction in attendance, if any, needs to be reported to me by today evening, duly signed by the concerned faculty. Tomorrow, I shall be forwarding the debarred list to the Dean and CoE office. Once the list has been forwarded, no correction shall be entertained.

Admit Card distribution


Those who qualify the attendance criteria based upon the attendance list uploaded yesterday may collect the admit card from Prashant (Sec-A)/ Sarmistha (Sec-B).

If there is any dues of more than Rs. 2500/-, contact the OSD for admit cards
For those who have dues less than Rs. 2500/- may get the admit card after signing an undertaking.

Those who are debarred in any one of the subjects due to shortage of attendance may come to me for collecting the admit card.


Dean's message regarding 4th and 5th May


The COE has already announced the Examination Schedule for I, II, III & IVth year End Term Examinations. 

The End Term Examinations will be conducted as per the schedule announced earlier by COE.

The HOD's and Faculty are requested to advise the students to start early from their place of residence in view of ADB's meeting at India Expo Centre on 4 and 5th of May 2013. 

The students must reach the examination hall well in time otherwise they will not be allowed to enter the Examination Hall.

Attendance till 26th April

Attendance till 26th April has been uploaded. You can access the same from here.
The attendance criteria for appearing in end term is as,

75% in each subject: Allowed
between 65-75%: Allowed with valid medical/ leave/ chorus/ any other event (already submitted)
between 60-65%: If certificate of hospitalisation of more than 2 weeks already submitted.
less than 65%: DEBARRED

Should you find any discrepancy in the attendance, contact your subject teacher first. Verify the attendance with him/ her till 18th April and then come to me with an application and the attendance written on the application.

Departmental Electives for the next term

In the next term you have two departmental electives. The offering for the two courses are given below. You may contact Prashant (Sec-A) and Sarmistha (Sec-B) for indicating your preference. The last date for submitting the form is 11th April, 2013 by 04:00pm.


Departmental Electives- 2 course

DE 1:
1.      Geoinformatics Engineering
The basics of GIS, Remote Sensing and other recent techniques of GI shall be covered

2.      Remote Sensing and GIS
Remote sensing, photogrammetry and image processing in addition to GIS will be discussed to enable the survey for civil engineering applications.


DE 2:
1.      Transportation Engineering
The course will introduce the design of roads and pavements as well as details of traffic engineering for efficient transportation system design.

2.      Highway Engineering
This course will cover the geometric design of highways, parking and Intersection design. Students will be taught the traffic volume studies and the principles and details of traffic management and regulation. 

The rules and instructions:
  • ·       Indicate your preferences by writing 1 for the first preference, 2 for the second and 3 for the third against the courses in the above table
  • ·         Please fill in all preferences.  If you do not fill all preferences, your department will fill in arbitrarily.
  • ·         Since there are limited number of seats in each of the courses, the allotment of the courses will be carried out by drawing of lots, and then strictly according to your preference order.
  • ·         If at the time your name is drawn the seats in your choice of first preference are already  filled, your next preference shall be allotted.
  • ·         If the registration for a course is not sufficient, the course may be dropped, and your next preference allotted to you.
  • ·         All allotments of courses will be final.

Attn. to 2nd Year Sec. B Students - Structural Analysis (SA) 

Prepare to give a presentation on SA subject with a good PPT. This can be done in group wise. And, you may form your own groups and each group must be with less than or equal to 10 number of students.

Topic of the PPT is to solve any numerical problem of SA from the syllabus only.

We shall have them presented in the class room on 20th April (Saturday) starting at 9:30 am.

Any group want to reappear can do on the same day.

After this day, no presentation will be accepted.

SA Subject - 2nd Year Sec. B students

Attn. to 2nd Year Section B students of SA subject:

Maintain and keep your class notes in order. This will be considered as equal to one assignment and will carry marks.

Bonafide certificate

OSD office is issuing  Bonafide Certificates to International Students. The most important requirements to issue Bonafide Certificate are as below:

1. The International Division has to verify and send recommendation.
2. The attendance of the student has to be verifies by HOD or 1st year Coordinator by putting up his/her signatures along with stamp.
3. In case student is staying in Hostel, the office can locate him/her on SIM. In case student is staying outside, the Rent Agreement is required.

Required Documents: Photograph, Photocopy of Visa and Passport

Attention Section A - Lab internal examination

Lab internal examination for Section A (II year) students will be conducted next week (8-12 April) for the BMC and Soil Mechanics Lab. You must complete your laboratory file and get it checked this week as no checking will be done next week. You can get your lab file checked either from your lab instructor or lab assistant.

Lab internal is of 25 marks which is further sub-divided into marks for lab file (10), viva (10) and attendance (5). 

You will lose marks if the file is incomplete or not checked. Internal exam will be conducted in your respective lab class.

Following experiments should be completed in your lab file:

BMC Lab 

1) Determine fineness of cement
2)  Determine consistency of cement
3) Find the initial and final setting time of cement
4) Sieve analysis
5) Determination of dimension and tolerance of the brick
6)  Water absorption of bricks


Soil Mechanics Lab

1) Soil Moisture content 
2) Soil specific gravity
3) Particle size distribution (sieve analysis)
4) Soil Atterberg limits (liquid limit and plastic limit) 
5) Soil compaction
6) Soil in-situ density
